So, day 5 of my “Better Designer” Challenge dared me to create a mood board. First of all, WTF is that, and second WHY?! I have never (intentionally) created a mood board before, so I had to do a quick wiki search of it. Wikipedia describes it as:
… a type of collage consisting of images, text, and samples of objects in a composition. They may be physical or digital, and can be “extremely effective” presentation tools.
So, with this knowledge in hand, and being the visual learner that I am, I journeyed to Pinterest for assistance. I recommend the following page/board for inspiration: Great Examples of Mood Boards. Then, I realized back in high school I made these all the time out of magazine cut-outs and taped them to my bedroom door (only to have my brother’s bratty friends rip them off, jerks!).
Two (ok… three) glasses of wine, MC Solaar radio blasting on Spotify, and a vague idea of how I was feeling ATM at my disposal I began my foray into Mood Board Territory! I know it’s not my greatest composition, but it kind of accurately depicts my state at that time (don’t judge!)
Now, if I was creating an invasion for say a Sweet 16 or and 30th birthday celebration I think this would be the perfect theme, depending the client, of course. Will I use this version of brainstorming again? Maybe. I can see how it can help one establish a theme or identity. If I were decorating my house or planning my wedding, this would be useful. But for designing a logo, or website, I don’t think it’d be too beneficial. What do y’all think?
